Hotel Petchkasem Grand

The location in Surin is great, but the disco bar below the hotel blasts music until 4am. Getting a proper night's sleep is impossible, and I think this will bring the hotel down. I'd only stay there again if the bar shut down.

I've stayed here many times at 450 THB a night, and I hope the infestations have been dealt with. Usually I'd splat one or two a day, but on this visit I got three. The staff are happy to help with splatting and spray. The owners need to make a decision, though it may be difficult since the whole neighborhood is deteriorating.

The staff are very friendly and helpful, even though English isn't really spoken. You can manage, and if you pay on arrival you can save a lot on booking fees. Skipping breakfast is another way to save. In my experience, rooms are usually available, especially in low season, though some weekends get busy with large parties. By Monday it quiets down. There’s a 711 a short walk away, with small restaurants and street food close by. The bus station is two minutes away, the train station five, and there’s a local supermarket nearby too. This is an old hotel but a good place to stay, and whenever I’m in Surin, I stay here.

The double bed room is 450B and clean. Ask for a quiet room, since the music pub gets noisy.
