Canal Resort

I visit Thailand up to five times a year, and since I usually take night flights, I reach Phuket in the evening, too late to catch the boat to my island, Koh Yao Noi, where I have my treehouse resort, Treehouse-Holidays. For years now, I’ve spent that first night at Canal Resort. Mr Kiat and his daughter Ne speak very good English and are really friendly. The place has air conditioning, a pool, TV, a bathroom, and a fridge, and the price is very low.

We keep coming back, and my wife and I always enjoy it. The rooms are decent and set back from the road, so they’re quieter than some other places in town. The owners are friendly and helpful, and there are plenty of eateries close by. If you need a kettle, cups, or housekeeping, just ask and they’ll sort it out. The pool is nice too, and the rates are very reasonable, especially in high season.

It’s conveniently close to the airport. I’d give it four stars because there were ants in our room and the air conditioner dripped.

I arranged the booking at the last minute from the airport, late at night. Nobody was at reception, but a kind woman answered when I called, talked me through everything, and helped me check in. I felt safe and grateful. The room was roomy, with a balcony looking out over a field. I could hear frogs croaking and some local singing, such lovely sounds from nature. The name “Canal” felt symbolic to me, as if all my inner channels were opening. The bed was comfortable, the shower was good, and there was a little spot on the balcony for morning yoga. Breakfast wasn’t available even though I’d booked it, but they adjusted the price, which was fine. It seems like an ideal place to stay after landing in Phuket before heading to Koh Phangan. My friend always stays here, and maybe I will too now.
