I was looking for a quiet place to rest for a few days after arriving in Trang on a whim. Most travelers seem to hurry through town on their way to the islands, but I’d come by bus from Krabi Town and booked Baan Bussaba Hotel. Its bright yellow building and gardens were a lovely first sight, and Anne greeted me warmly at the door. Staying there felt peaceful and private, but there was also a friendly, social feel when I wanted to chat. Anne has the place well organized and can arrange a trusted local driver for day trips at a very affordable hourly rate. I went to the national park hot springs one afternoon, where there are tucked-away private pools and you can finish with a massage. I’d highly recommend that visit. Anne also suggested a fantastic little restaurant practically next door, tucked inside the local library. Breakfast was fresh and satisfying each morning, with frogs providing the soundtrack whenever it rained. I’ve stayed in plenty of guesthouses across Thailand, and this one ranks near the top for me. Leaving was harder than I expected. Baan Bussaba gave me a few days to breathe, reset, and feel connected again. It’s a rare find in a town people often rush past.

This was my second stay at Baan Bussaba, and it felt incredibly heartfelt, like being at home. The hotel was newly built for hospitality, rather than converted from a single-family house as some reviewers have thought. That homey feeling comes from the concept, and especially from how welcoming and thoughtful Anne is. My six-day stay flew by because of her warmth. Anne runs everything herself, so the experience feels personal and intimate, more like staying with friends or family than at a typical five-star hotel with a large staff. That’s what makes Baan Bussaba special. The hotel has a well-deserved Green Hotel Award. I enjoyed homemade snacks and fresh fruit from Anne’s lush garden, and liked seeing leftover food composted to care for the plants. The bedsheets were spotless and smelled wonderful. There are plenty of good local food options within walking distance, and the area feels safe and welcoming.

Trang can feel alien and unpolished to westerners, but this hotel is a calm oasis with a few decent food options nearby. Anne is a caring, attentive host who’s always there to welcome you back and offer advice. I doubt there’s a better place to stay in Trang. Recommended!

Anne was a great hostess, with suggestions for places to eat and visit, and she even checked train times for our trip to Kantang. We stayed three nights while exploring Trang before going on to Koh Ngai. A basic breakfast is included, and for a small fee Anne will cook a large, delicious omelette. Great place to stay and excellent value!
