Bordin Hotel

It was easy to grab a meal without going far. There are plenty of nearby restaurants, street food spots, and cafes, and the Japanese restaurant Paed is right there at the hotel. I also liked the wide drink selection in the lobby fridge. Rooms were spotless, spacious, comfortable, and bright thanks to the big windows, with great air conditioning. Staff, from reception through housekeeping, were always smiling, friendly, and quick to help. Great value, and I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Ubon.

For value, this is at the top of the list. We’re three months into travelling around Southeast Asia, and this has been the best-value hotel we’ve found so far. The rooms have been beautifully renovated, and the staff were incredibly helpful. It may not be a 5-star hotel, but the service and cleanliness are at that level. The room was big, nicely furnished, and so spotless it felt like you could safely operate in it. Some reviewers call the place a bit old. I suspect it used to be an office block, which might explain the corridors, but who sleeps in the corridor? The location is good, close to a large park for a walk or jog. About 200m away is Yujou Izakaya ubon, a really good, mostly Japanese restaurant. There’s also a café and restaurant attached to the YU YU hotel. In January, we found that restaurant too cold, since it was already cold outside at night and there was no need for A/C. The live music was awful, even though the musicians were good and just going through the MOR motions. You can order food there and have it served in the adjacent café, which is a beautiful place for a meal or tea or coffee.

Right in the city centre, with a clean hotel, lots of parking, and a good location. The price was only 29 CAD.

For my one-night solo stay, I booked on the same day and had no complaints, including about the price. The bed was clean, the shower was hot, and everything was tidy. Just be aware there’s a language barrier, so basic Thai or Google Translate will help. A simple, clean hotel.
