Phebus Hotel Gammarth

This place used to be nice, but it hasn’t been looked after. Everything is old and dirty. It was hot, there was no AC, and mosquitoes swarmed the room. Weeks after the stay I still had bruises from their bites. Every day they told us there’d be AC tomorrow. The fridge promised when booking wasn’t there, and half the time they took the towels without replacing them. The bathroom was filthy and the shower curtain disgusting. Never again.

The smell was bad throughout, and there were insects. Hygiene was so inhuman that nothing positive could stand out. I booked two days but left before completing my pilgrimage. From the outside it looks like a four-star hotel, but inside it doesn’t deserve even a minus star. It wasn’t suitable for sleeping at all.

Lunch and dinner were rather good, and the pool was pretty good too. The beach area could use some attention. It feels like a once high-end hotel that’s now ageing fairly gracefully, with most things still working as they should. Breakfast hardly seems worth getting up for. WiFi is available throughout the hotel, though the connection can be flaky away from the main areas.

We stayed for two days with friends, from 19th July to 21st July, and had a good time overall. The location by the sea was nice, and the hotel’s private beach was clean and pleasant to hang out on. It’s also close to La Marsa, a very good town in the country with one of the best KFC's. Prices were good compared with other nearby hotels, and breakfast had good options. On the downside, the furniture in both the rooms and lobby was old. The garden pool got dirty and was only maintained once a day. The garden restaurant had few options, and the food was expensive and didn’t taste good. The hotel convenience store was very expensive too.
