Hotel Carlton

We stayed for five nights. The room was very clean and fresh, the shower worked well, and a hairdryer was provided. The location was convenient, with restaurants on Main Street and in nearby alleys, easy access by taxi, and a Monoprix supermarket five minutes away on foot. Breakfast didn't have much variety, and the fresh orange juice was very good, though it wasn't available every day. I wasn't happy with the night receptionist, who wasn't very friendly. I asked about a Dougga day tour, and the hotel arranged a driver for 350 TND. The receptionist said we could stay as long as we wanted, but after 2.5 hrs the driver followed us and insisted on taking us back. I didn't mind staying 2.5 hours, but the receptionist should have made the time limit clear, or at least communicated it to the driver, who didn't speak English very well. The driver was very nice and let us stay an extra 30 minutes after we talked to him. The morning staff, by contrast, were very nice and attentive. Despite the night staff, the stay was pleasant overall.

The location was why I chose this hotel, and it was excellent. St. Vincent de Paul Cathedral and the "I love Tunis" sign are just three minutes away, the medina is five minutes away, and there are plenty of restaurants. It's also easy to reach from the airport. The area felt very safe. I stayed three nights before the Sahara Tour, whose pickup was a three-minute walk away at 4:45 a.m. My double room was spacious, with comfy beds and a new bathroom. It was cleaned daily, and tea and coffee were provided, though no brown sugar. I loved the breakfast and its many choices. I'd stay again.

The room was around 25°C and extremely hot when I arrived, so I asked reception about the air conditioning. They said a technician would come. I waited about an hour, then someone briefly appeared, said he'd return, and disappeared. After more waiting, I went back downstairs and was casually told the air conditioning wouldn't work that night. Nobody had let me know, and they'd left me waiting. The next day I was again told to wait for a technician, but nobody came. After another hour I went to reception, where I learned the hotel only turns on air conditioning in the summer. At other times, even when it's 25-30°C outside, it just blows warm air. That directly contradicts the hotel's website, which says air conditioning is available. I asked for a refund and questioned what I'd been told. A staff member said he'd call the manager. It felt as though he pretended to make the call, then returned saying the problem would be fixed in a few hours. It never was. Several staff seemed to know the situation but misled me and wasted my time instead of being honest or communicating clearly. The handling of this was very frustrating, and the service was very poor.

We stayed from 29 Dec till 5 January 2026, for New Year, and were really glad we picked this hotel for our first time in the country. Carlton Hotel is right in the middle of downtown Tunis / Carthage, making it easy to get everywhere. Our room was very clean and modern, with a very comfortable bed and windows we could open for fresh air. Breakfast was fantastic, with lots of food options and two coffee machines. The staff were all friendly and helpful, too. It's one of the best hotel experiences I've had. Thank you so much, Carlton Hotel and staff, for making our New Year in Tunisia wonderful. I hope to come back someday and would choose this hotel again. Happy New Year!
