We had such a good time here in November 2025 with our two young kids. Youssef gave us great travel advice, especially for day trips and excursions that would work for small children. Everyone was welcoming and professional, and he was thoughtful about our family’s needs. The hotel is right in the middle of the medina, which suited us because we could walk to so many places. Breakfast was generous and delicious. If something on the menu isn’t for you and you’re staying a few days, mention it and they’ll kindly adjust it. We’d happily recommend Dar Ben Gacem and would love to come back. A great choice if you want authentic Tunisian hospitality.

We came as three architects accompanying 27 architecture students from Bergen, and Dar Ben Gacem was an ideal base. The location and the chance to experience traditional Tunisian architecture at its best made it a perfect fit for our visit to Tunis. There’s also a little surprise in the basement that you can only discover by visiting. The staff were all incredibly kind and accommodating. We held lectures at the hotel, and they served breakfast early to fit our schedule. Anything we needed was handled. A special thank you to our hero Youssef, whose patience, professionalism, and help made managing such a large group ten times easier. I can’t recommend this Dar enough to anyone visiting Tunis.

We loved our first visit to Tunisia and would happily return, hopefully in summer so we can enjoy the terrace. We stayed January 5-9, 2026, with two rooms, one upstairs for our son and one on the first floor for us. He’s 6ft 4, so we’d asked about a larger bed. Staff at the other Dar where we’d first booked moved us here at no extra cost to accommodate that request. Our room was roomy, with a large sofa, a spacious bathroom, and luggage storage. Our son’s room was airy and spacious too. The only thing missing from our room was hangers for the clothes rack. A small guide to the Dar, its history, rooms, amenities, and nearby areas would also be useful in the lobby or rooms. In winter, it might be nice to be able to get mint tea from the kitchen and enjoy it in the reading area or on the terrace after a day out. We took the breakfast package. Two women whose names we can’t recall lovingly prepared a delicious spread: fresh bread, juices, yogurt, fruit, muffins, jams, coffee and tea, plus omelettes made to order. Staff were friendly and attentive around the clock and suggested local places to eat and shop. We’d arranged a half-day Medina tour through a local business organization that also works with the Dar, and our guide met us in the lobby. We arrived by taxi arranged through the Dar, after dropping off our rental car at the airport. The ride took about 17-20 minutes and cost 50 TND, paid directly to the driver. He dropped us just meters from the Dar, since most taxis won’t come into the small roads leading to it.

A beautiful place in a typical Tunisian neighborhood, right in the Medina and handy for exploring nearby. The interior is stunning, and everything was very clean and well looked after. We had a wonderful stay.

The hotel’s beauty and authentic feel made my three nights in Tunisia special. The staff were very helpful, breakfast was great, and I got useful recommendations and guidance that helped me have a great time in Tunis. It’s conveniently placed for walking to nearly everything. When I needed a taxi, Kasbah Sq was close by and easy to reach. A great hotel.
