Hôtel Le Calife

The room needs attention: the bed frame was broken, and the double bed was just two beds at different heights pushed together, each with its own mattress. The toilet flush also worked only inconsistently. The hotel’s Google listing says pets are allowed, but when we arrived, they claimed they weren’t. The company refused to let me speak to a manager when the hotel wouldn’t follow Booking.com policy. A company that won’t admit a customer service mistake or do the right thing doesn’t deserve customers. I wouldn’t use or recommend them again. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to stay.

The staff were polite and professional, and the rooms were clean. Still, they’re very small and have poor ventilation, which made the stay uncomfortable, especially for more than one night. Breakfast was extremely basic, just a cappuccino and a little orange juice, nowhere near what I’d expect at this price. In my opinion, the hotel is overpriced for what it offers. The value for money is poor, and it would need significant improvements to justify its rates.

I’d stayed here before and had been very happy with the service, so I booked four months ahead. Three days before travelling, the booking website said my card was invalid and needed updating. My details hadn’t changed, but I updated them straight away and got confirmation from the site. Then, 24 hours later, I was told the hotel had cancelled because of card issues. After I reached Tunis, I happened to chat over breakfast at another hotel with a couple who’d had their booking cancelled too. I’d be careful about booking here without a backup plan.

We loved coming here on Sunday mornings. It was nice to connect with the owners, including Asma, and grab a direct. Would recommend!
