Hotel Transatlantique

This place felt old and sketchy, with plenty of sex workers around. Lock your door twice unless you want someone soliciting to visit. There weren’t any bedbugs while I was there, which felt like an upgrade. Check in, buckle up, and enjoy the atmosphere. You won’t leave the same.

For six days, my friend and I shared a double room that turned out better than I expected for the price. It was cozy, with three windows or balconies, a small fridge, air conditioning, a private shower, Wi-Fi, and a TV. The cleaning staff, café workers, and receptionists were all great. Breakfast came from the hotel café, which opens onto the street and feels public. The staff there were respectful and friendly. The meal was pretty standard: a latte, pastry, juice, and butter and jam. All in all, a pleasing stay.

Everything was clean, and my room was spacious, with a comfortable bed, TV, and a good bathroom. The hotel is right in the middle of town near the train station. There wasn’t much hot water, and the elevator was out of order, which wasn’t great with a room on the fifth floor.

My friend and I stayed here in February 2023, and it was a terrible experience. We slept in separate beds, but the sheets were dirty and the next day we both had a very itchy rash that left scars. When we asked for a price reduction over this, the receptionist argued at length, even though we felt it would have been fair not to pay at all. We looked at other beds to switch rooms, but none were clean. Other reviews mention the same problem. Avoid this place, especially since there are much better options at this price.
