Le Belvedere

The rooms are very large, and the bed was comfy. The shower was good too. The place is okay, with old fashioned Arabic and Mediterranean decor. The AC wasn’t working. They said it was spring and not hot, which was ridiculous. It felt like people in the area might try to scam you if you don’t speak the language. The hotel said the taxi to the airport was 80 through Bolt when they arranged it, but I paid 20. Just be careful.

I checked out last night after staying here with my family, and I felt relieved to leave. The reception was tiny and dirty, with two old sofas, and the desk looked like it hadn’t been cleaned. The rooms were spacious but very old and smelled of sewage. Toilet water was coming out in blocks. The air conditioning didn’t work properly, and when I asked reception, they said that was just how it was and nothing could be done. The reception staff weren’t friendly and even started behaving badly when I complained about the rooms. Paying for breakfast was a mistake: every day it was the same three dishes, rice, ojji, and some sauteed vegetables, with no variety. I’ve never stayed in such a disgusting hotel. I don’t know why it has five stars when it should have zero.

Update: there’s no air conditioning in the rooms. They lie and say they’ll send someone to check. Avoid it in summer at all costs. Otherwise, it’s a pretty good, cheap hotel, with very large, comfortable rooms and a nice restaurant serving cold beer and showing sports on TV. The AC didn’t work, and there was a noisy rooftop bar a couple of blocks away.

The suites were roomy and impressive, with a massive bathroom and shower. Staff were professional and incredibly helpful throughout our stay at Hotel La Maison Blanche in Tunis. The noise from the club bar downstairs was a real drawback. We had a wonderful experience overall, though I’d call it a solid four-star hotel rather than a five-star one.
