Wasa Hotel

The staff were polite, but arriving to find out there was no room for us until 3 a.m. was a shock, especially since we'd paid for that night. The food was bland and repetitive. The only fruit was half-rotten apples, and the only dessert was some kind of pudding.

The beach is a five-minute walk away, with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. The location is very good. The rooms were comfortable and the hotel was very clean. Staff were friendly and helpful, and there was a lot of good food to choose from. A very good hotel all around.

The meals made the week difficult. The choices were limited, nothing was labelled, and the food seemed aimed at Russian and German guests. As a fussy eater and vegetarian, I ended up living on bread. We were hot and hungry, though nearby convenience stores and fast food places helped. Our room was okay. The door lock and air conditioning both gave us trouble, but staff fixed them quickly. By the pool, staff often stared at us, which felt creepy. We’d choose another hotel next time. You get what you pay for.

Food was the main letdown during our week in block A. We’d paid for all inclusive but hardly ate there. Breakfast was bread and Eurocream, and we skipped lunch and dinner. When we did try dinner, it was sometimes edible, but usually poor and the same every day. Plates and cutlery were often dirty. The bar and restaurant waiters were friendly, which helped the impression a bit. The room was what we expected from a three-star hotel, with two beds, air conditioning, a large bathroom, a roomy shower and a nice terrace. The location was very good, close to Cleopatra beach, Ataturk boulevard, the harbour and the bar and club street. One receptionist was unfriendly and seemed bored whenever we came to ask for something. If I return to Alanya, I’ll look for another hotel.
