I had a bizarre stay and wouldn’t recommend this place if you expect the privacy you should get in a hotel. Before my check-in date, I asked about an airport transfer. The reply was “subject to availability,” and nobody followed up or asked how I’d get there. I arrived at 8am and was told check-in would be at 12pm. The guests in my room checked out after their checkout time, so I didn’t get the room until 1pm. The staff’s indifference felt extremely rude. The day before checkout, I told reception I’d booked another night on Agoda. He said he’d check with the owner and confirm, but I never heard back, so I assumed it was understood. The next afternoon, while I was asleep, I heard four knocks. When I opened the door, nobody was there. Then the owner, the reception guys, and another man I didn’t know gathered outside my room and told me I should have informed them about the booking. They said it was a three-person room, that I had to pack, and that they could send me to another hotel. I was completely confused. I’d booked and paid in full online, like anyone would. The hotel they wanted to move me to cost a quarter of what I’d paid. I asked them either to refund me or book a room nearby at the same value. The owner got agitated, handed me cash, and said, “here, take your money, and I will pay for your other hotel if you want. It’s my penalty.”

This cute, family-run hotel is right in the centre of town. The staff were so kind, helpful, and welcoming, and shared lots of local knowledge that made our stay extra special. I’d 100% recommend Hotel Gulec.

The garden patio was a lovely place to sit and chat at night, with a cool breeze making the heat feel comfortable. I enjoyed seeing the local stray cats wandering around the garden, relaxed and aloof as they are elsewhere in Turkey. Breakfast was a fresh, varied self-service buffet, and the internal garden had tables and chairs for eating. The garden connects to the pool at an adjacent restaurant, which guests can use. The hotel is cozy and the staff are very friendly. It’s about a 5-7 minute walk to a wonderful beach and a centre full of shops and cafés. At the beach club, you can use their umbrellas and chairs if you spend at least 300 TL on food or drinks at the bar or restaurant. Our room was cozy and had air conditioning, a necessity in the warm July-August season, plus a TV with only Turkish channels. The bathroom was well equipped, though there was no toilet paper when we arrived, and staff quickly brought some when asked. The shower gets slippery when the water is on, so be careful. The price was very fair, and the service was welcoming and ready to help with any accommodations. It was ideal for a summer stay, and I would have loved to stay longer. Definitely recommend it.

I booked through Booking.com, but when I got to the hotel they wanted me to pay more than the price shown online. I refused, and they treated me rudely. As soon as I left, they changed the price straight away.

We had to arrive early because there was only one bus a day from Denizli to Bodrum, and the boss was angry when we asked to leave our bags. He was extremely rude. Then, after check-in, we got a tiny room with four single beds and practically no room to walk around, much smaller than the one I booked online. He stayed cold and impolite throughout our two-night stay. Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I wouldn’t recommend it.
