Ada Bacchus Hotel

A cozy little hotel with friendly people, right in the vineyards. Breakfast comes in a lush garden with a sea view, and birds are everywhere. We had to leave early because the next day’s ferries were cancelled, but the owners didn’t charge us for the room we cancelled at the last minute. Such a lovely place, we’ll definitely come back! The view is magnificent, and the staff were so pleasant, welcoming, and helpful. Breakfast was quite good, the usual sort for Turkey. The only real issue was the room size. It could have been bigger, as it was really too small for two people with two suitcases.

The wifi was very patchy, despite claims that it worked throughout the property, and we had to rely on cellular coverage most of the time. There’s a pool and nice views, but you have to drive to reach the nearest beaches. Getting there also means a long, rough road that could take a toll on a sedan. The bigger problem was the noise and how management dealt with us. A large, handsome house dog roamed freely and chased cats. It barked at random hours, making sleep a nightmare for anyone not used to that. After our second sleepless night, we complained. They secured the dog next door to our room, but when it started barking again at 6:00 am, we got up to calm it. The facility manager Semra was there. When we asked why it was happening again, she said, “it is the nature of the animal” and slammed the door. Later that day, we tried speaking with the owner, Ahmet, but he wasn’t in the mood to hear us. Instead of listening, he lectured us about dogs’ natural needs. We told him either he or Semra could have shown sympathy, apologized, and explained that they’d done their best but the dog still needed its nature-walk, and we would have understood. For this management, their dog seemed to come first, followed by joining forces against the guests. They said they’re known as a dog-friendly hotel, though we hadn’t been told that, and that guests should expect this kind of noise. It seemed they resented having to tie up their dog because of us “problem-making” guests, then unleashed their hatred like a bad neighbor. He said he’d been in the hotel business for 50 years, but he hasn’t learned much about dealing with guests or training dogs.

Quiet, green, peaceful, and private, with amazing hosts and birds chirping nonstop. beyaz, the friendly white labrador, was lovely, and breakfast was great. What else could you ask for?!
