Bozcaada Hülyada

Ms. Hülya and her son were sociable and very friendly during our three-day bed-and-breakfast stay at the end of July. Since Bozcaada is close to Istanbul, we chose it for a short break. Ms. Hülya was unwell while we were there, so our room couldn't be cleaned daily. We still liked the hotel, especially for its location near both the center and the bays.

We stayed at Hülya Guest House on August 23rd, and after a lizard was seen in the room, my friend asked to move rooms. The owner banged on the door, shouted, and behaved threateningly, then made us leave at 1 a.m. We called 112, and the police/gendarmerie came. With the officers' help, we spent an hour finding another hotel, and they took us there at 2 a.m. The next morning I received disturbing calls from another number, with breathing sounds. The establishment is unlicensed. I absolutely wouldn't recommend it if you care about security and peace of mind.

We had a really enjoyable stay over Eid al-Adha. The buffet breakfast included local dishes, olives, the famous Bozcaada tomato jam, and other jams Ms. Hülya made herself. I had been skeptical of the reviews because they sounded almost too good to be true, but stepping into the room convinced me they were accurate. Ms. Hülya greeted us at the door with a big smile. The room was larger than the average boutique hotel room, with elegant, simple, new furnishings. The beds, sheets, floors, and bathroom were all spotless.

Ms. Hülya made us feel at ease the whole time with her warm, welcoming manner, and we were very pleased with her hospitality. The room and hotel were exceptionally clean. We now know exactly where we'll stay on our next visit to Bozcaada.
