The ride up to Pokut takes around 45 minutes from the bottom, and the bumpy, wild road turned out to be a fun off-road adventure rather than as scary as people say. Make sure the weather is clear and dry for a safe drive and the best views. If you'd rather relax, local transports handle those roads like pros. It was worth every minute. From the top, clouds float below you, mountains stretch out endlessly, and it feels like you're on top of the world. What an adventure!

At the top there's parking, then you can explore on foot. The scenery is breathtaking, a must see. The drive up is well worth it, though the road is winding and bumpy for 16+ km and takes around an hour.

There are no tickets required, and you can see the snow topped kackar mountains on the other side. Pokut and Sal are just two villages on neighboring Highlands. We visited in October, after the season had ended, so most villagers had left. One of the few still there told us winter is harsh, and they only come to their holiday homes in summer. I think that's when the area gets more tourists and feels livelier. The road is very difficult, but the visit is worth it. Plan to go early, since you can't drive once night comes. I rented a Tiggo 8, but its front wheel drive and long wheel base meant the front tire spun too much, even when I went slowly and accelerated gently. Local Turkish people were driving up too, but for foreigners, a tour bus may be a better choice. There were lots of tour buses.

The climb takes an hour and is well worth it. At the top you'll find one cafe with a perfect view, a praying are, and dark, stinky toilets that were horrible. I wouldn't attempt the drive without a 4-wheel drive vehicle. We made it in a 2WD duster, but I wouldn't do that again.

One love, such a beautiful place, a must see! The climb is uphill, but still manageable. The view is worth it!!!
