Hotel Des Etrangers - Special Class

Breakfast was great, and the staff were attentive and friendly. It’s a cozy, homey family place, with lots of spots within walking distance. We enjoyed staying here!

The floors were dirty and the sheets were torn, and there was barely any sound insulation, so evening noise filled the room. The AC wasn’t working, and management didn’t seem concerned. We’d booked a double bed, but found two singles instead. Getting to the hotel was a disaster too: it took half an hour to cover the 500-meter road, and even though we called ahead, no one warned us. On top of that, the elderly owner was rude and swore, while the woman manager seemed attentive but wasn’t courteous. The stay was dismal for what we paid. I have no criticism they could refute. Don’t make the mistake of trying this place.

I loved the traditional Turkish breakfast. There weren’t many options, but it was all homemade and tasted like my mom’s cooking. You could tell it was made with love. The young man at reception also deserves thanks for booking us a room when I called last minute from the road. It’s a cute, small hotel in the busy heart of Çanakkale. The rooms are small, which makes sense in an old building in a busy town center. There’s a great bar right underneath, and it had a rock music night. I would have joined if I hadn’t been exhausted after 8 hours of driving. Choosing a downtown hotel instead of a quiet, out of the way one was my decision, so I can’t complain that it made sleeping after a long drive harder. 🙂 I’d love to return when I’m less tired and stay longer.

The included Turkish breakfast was the highlight, it was delicious. We stayed on a Saturday, so it was a bit loud, but the hotel is right in a great spot in the city center. It’s handy for seeing Troy and Gallipoli. The place is quaint, good value, and the room furniture has lots of character.
