Yona Motel

The hotel's style was really nice, and the owner and receptionist were warm and friendly. The location was a big plus too, with a beach nearby and the sandy beach and fountain about an hour's walk away if you enjoy walking. We stayed in a garden economy room in 2022, so I can't say what it's like now. The price was reasonable, but the old beds and sheets still bothered us, and the wardrobes were dirty. Breakfast was very limited, and the birds made some noise. It had its shortcomings, but I wouldn't call it a bad hotel.

The sea view and being close to the beach were about the only positives for us. The room shown in the photo was in a different part of the garden, and wasn't the apartment-style room we were given. Our room needed maintenance everywhere: the sliding doors were hard to open, the bathroom door was broken and let every sound through, and the air conditioning kept getting very cold before switching off and on. There was no kettle, and the fridge was empty and smelled of nothing being stocked. Breakfast was extremely meager, with extra charges for anything else. We got one small, useless bar of soap and three tiny shampoo bottles for five days, so we had to buy soap, shampoo and shower gel ourselves. We also woke to bugs crawling on the floor. Getting around the center of Çeşme can be difficult, so keep transport in mind. I'd research carefully and avoid a nonrefundable booking. There are better places nearby, and I wouldn't stay here again.

The service we got after booking through Etstur was awful, and the place was filthy from the entrance through to the rooms. The garden tables weren't wiped unless we asked, and at lunch we found eggshells left from breakfast. Some tablecloths were stained and never changed. Breakfast was so scant that we nearly had to provide it ourselves. Our room was dusty and full of cobwebs; the broken toilet door, leaking shower and muddy wet floor made it worse. The beds were painfully uncomfortable and noisy, the wardrobe doors were broken, and the air conditioning barely cooled. A plastic sliding door made the room feel like it was falling apart. When the power went out, there was no generator. We had a patient with us who needed a machine, but we couldn't connect it, and the electricity stayed off all night and into the morning. The staff were surly. We had read the bad reviews but trusted Etstura and booked anyway. I can't believe people praising this place, it isn't worth the price and doesn't even feel like a motel or guesthouse. We didn't camp, but anyone considering it should know there is no proper camping area, just five tents in front of the house, and the shared toilets are disgusting. For 600 lira, buying a tent and camping on Çeşme's beaches would be better. After we complained, Etstur called, heard us out and tried to help. Thanks to Mr. Anıl from Etstur.

The downstairs economy room really needs a major overhaul. It was stuffy and damp smelling, and the bedding was moldy, stained and strongly odorous. The mini-fridge smelled so bad I couldn't put water in it. I can't say whether the air conditioners had been cleaned for pollen, but whenever we switched one on, the room filled with a strong cigarette smell. We were booked Monday through Saturday, but left in a rush on Thursday morning, worn down by lack of sleep. I can't speak for the upstairs rooms, and the sea view ones might be nice. The staff seemed like typical motel staff, friendly enough, and I have no complaint about them. Just don't expect much.
