Azizoglu Malkoc Hotel

Our room reeked of cigarette smoke, and the smell got onto us and our clothes. That's not what we paid for.

The location and view were nice, and the service and elevator were okay. The room was clean enough, though the blanket smelled of cigarettes. We stayed one night in January and arrived in the evening expecting warmth, but the AC wasn't working. Thankfully, the heater did work. The room itself was just okay, and it was quite cold.

Breakfast was good, especially the bread, which seemed fresh from the oven. There was hot water in the bathroom, and the room had toiletries, bedsheets, furniture, and a working elevator. They also gave me water, tea bags, creamer, coffee, sugar, and a cup for the kettle already in the room. The cold was the main problem during my 24-hour stay. It was -14 at night and -8 Celsius during the day, but the hotel boiler wasn't turned on, perhaps to avoid the gas bill. I complained a couple of times before housekeeping brought an AC remote late at night. It helped warm the room a little but not enough, and I was cold all night. The morning manager/receptionist wasn't welcoming, while the rest of the staff were helpful and hospitable. The night receptionist was nice too, but none of them spoke English. In such extreme weather, the room's heating and cooling should be part of the hotel's basic comfort.

The location was the only thing I liked. The room was small, old, and dirty, and I didn't feel safe enough to sleep without putting a chair behind the door. The bed creaked whenever I moved. I didn't eat there, and the staff weren't friendly. I really can't recommend it.
