Hotel Vanilla

I needed a late holiday in Turkey, and Hotel vanilla in Fethiye was just right. It’s a clean, well run, family-run place without frills, and the staff were so friendly that they even came looking for me when I got lost. They really try to make you comfortable. That was a welcome change from the modern, high rise, expensive complexes that seem interested only in your money. I’d recommend this little hotel and will be back in March 25. This was very basic accommodation, definitely not a 4 star hotel. As someone who travels seven months of the year as an international travel writer, I love Turkish breakfast, usually a generous spread that’s a pleasure to eat. Here, when I asked for an extra boiled egg, the man serving told me they’d boiled only the exact number needed for the guests. I pointed out that he’d given the person in front of me two eggs, and he reluctantly gave me another. When I raised the whole thing with the owner, I found her rude and condescending. There were guests in only three rooms that morning. Sadly, not a memorable stay. 🙄

The walls are paper thin, so expect to hear what’s going on around you, and the rooms are old. Still, the staff were friendly, breakfast was simple but enough, and Çalış Beach is very close. They also offered a discount for paying cash.

We had a nice stay overall. The two women who own the place were welcoming, and our room was clean. It’s a good option if you’re on a budget. One thing, though: our room wasn’t cleaned and we weren’t given fresh towels for the second night. We also had to pay for tea and coffee, and there was no kettle in the room to make our own.
