Grand Gebze Hotel

The rooms can be very different here, even though the prices are the same. For our family of two adults and a 14-year-old, the first rooms we were shown were 502 and 503. They smelled of tobacco and mold and looked awful. The electricity was unreliable, the AC was stuck on full blast with no remote, and the sheets were yellowed, old, and cigarette-burned. The bathroom furniture was in terrible shape too. Just dreadful. There seem to be two separate parts of the hotel. One has clean, renovated rooms, decent furniture, and generally civilized conditions. The other is awful, nowhere near half a star. Our friends made a scene and got 215 and 214 in the renovated part, which were okay. We weren't as lucky, so we asked for our money back and found somewhere else. The manager came across as cheerful and persuasive, but I felt he was trying to fool inexperienced tourists or people who had no choice but to stay. It seems like they try the awful rooms first, then offer something better if guests push back. People arriving late or exhausted might feel stuck with the worst rooms. A refund after showing guests rooms like those doesn't fix the issue. Every room should meet a basic decent standard, regardless of how much a guest complains. This isn't about choosing a smoking or non-smoking room. Everyone should be offered clean, safe, comfortable conditions. The difference between rooms shouldn't depend on luck. We also send you all our love, but honestly, I wouldn't recommend this place even to my enemies. First time here, and I'll be back soon. The manager was a very good person and his English was very good. The staff were good too. The room was clean, and breakfast was a nice open buffet. Prices were reasonable. Excellent hotel.

The breakfast was superb, easily a 20 out of 10. We had an excellent corner room, and the room came with tea, coffee, and water. The owner, an Albanian, is a very nice older man who usually cooks at the hotel, and his food is amazing. A really excellent experience.

Don't stay here. We paid the full rate for a substandard room, and they took the money as soon as we checked in. The floor was dirty, there was no toilet paper or Wi-Fi, and nobody cleaned the room. The shower was so hot it burned my skin and couldn't be turned down to cold, hotter than tea. They ignored our calls about these problems. If I couldn't find anywhere else, I'd sooner sleep in a car or ask a local for a place for the night.
