The cigarette smoke was the biggest problem. It kept coming into our room through the air con and bathroom, and on the last morning we found a hole in the wardrobe's ventilation wall. As non-smokers, it was barely breathable and even woke us in the night. We mentioned it to staff twice. The first time they seemed intrigued and confused but did nothing or follow up. The second time, the cleaner said it was because people were smoking. Yes, that's the problem. We assume people were smoking in their own bathrooms, where there wasn't a smoke detector. Like a lot of Istanbul, the experience seems very different for non-smokers. The rooms also weren't soundproof as booking.com repeatedly claimed. During the first two nights of 2025, we could hear the neighbours' antics as if they were right beside us. There were some good things: great breakfast with an awesome view a short walk away, friendly staff, and a comfortable bed, though I have a caveat about the staff. Without those two massive issues, this would've been five stars all the way. Two stars might seem harsh, but it reflects our four nights.
