The housekeeping was good, but that was the one thing I liked. The hotel is in a run down area of Istanbul and doesn't look welcoming from outside. Inside, it's dirty and worn down, and the staff felt unhelpful and unwelcoming, except for one friendly man at reception. The room was much smaller than it appeared. The bedroom is sectioned off and feels claustrophobic, with no air conditioning, so it got very hot at night. The air conditioning in the main room was only okay. There was no information about the facilities, and no one mentioned them at check-in. I didn't find out breakfast was included until the third day, and only learned about the spa from Google Maps. Breakfast was abysmal. The small Starbucks counter had no proper food, and when I tried to order, they had nothing in stock. I'm surprised this is a Marriott property.

The room felt luxurious, and it was a nice touch to find a microwave and popcorn waiting for us. The other services were good until we got the sudden news that the valet had shut down. A few days earlier they'd confirmed they had valet parking. The guy told us to park on the street and wished us luck. It felt like expecting a PlayStation for Christmas and getting socks. Driving around Ataşehir for 30 minutes, giving up, and finding another hotel just as good is the last thing anyone wants. That's not five-star service, unless they deliberately want to go bankrupt. The location was just so-so, though the hotel is fairly close to some bus stops, and a few buses from there go to İçerenköy metro station. Pure disappointment. That's the end.

The breakfast room and food selection were nice, and the desk staff were friendlier. The in-house manager, though, was incredibly rude and unprofessional. The hotel should find a new manager. There was loud noise from the vents all night in my room. They tried to tell me it was wind, but it definitely wasn't. Housekeeping took an item from my room. After I confronted them, they said they'd magically found it after I checked out. I spent $30 USD on a taxi to collect it, then was told they couldn't find it and needed another 15 minutes.

The breakfast was good, and the hair dryer was good too. The location worked well for getting cheap food during or after work. That's about it. This was the second worst hotel I've stayed in. The worst had a rolling ball of pubic hair in the bathroom and suspicious white spots on a sofa. A random pick would likely get you a better hotel. Room service banged on the door before 9 AM on Saturday. When I left the room, they sorted my clothes by type, unfortunately mixing the fresh and used ones. My key stopped working twice during my seven-day stay, and staff said that was somehow normal. They did extremely loud pipe maintenance for hours and refused to stop after I complained that I was sick and needed sleep. There was no toothbrush or toothpaste. The room had a black footprint on the sofa, a broken socket cover, and a bathroom sink with a clogged drain. The toilet brush was too short to use without getting my hands wet. The cheap electric kettle smelled like plastic whenever I turned it on. The light controls were in Turkish and awkward to use, and the bathroom water controls made taking a shower feel like it needed a PhD. The air conditioning in the room was hardwired to create a polar environment, and it made me sick.

I booked three nights at Residence Inn By Marriott İstanbul Ataşehir, from 14th to 17th of December 2025, but left after the second night. The room heating wasn't working at all during very cold nights. In the morning, reception said maintenance was working on it and promised it would be fixed within an hour. That evening, the front desk confirmed there was a problem with the central heating system. I left the room all day and came back late in the evening to find it still cold and nothing fixed. The front desk gave me the same answer and suggested turning the air conditioner to a high temperature for an hour. I followed that advice for more than two hours, as shown in the attached photos, but the room only got colder. The room's comfort and quality also fell short of what I'd expect from a four-star hotel. I stayed here about three years ago, and the management and service standards have clearly declined. The night shift front desk employee was unprofessional. The valet staff were rude and shouted instead of speaking respectfully, as if the guest worked for them. Guests book hotels to relax and feel comfortable, not deal with avoidable stress caused by staff who don't represent a four-star hotel or the reputation of Marriott Bonvoy. Based on my experience, I don't recommend staying here.
