Sweet Hotel Istanbul

We got a fantastic deal for the money, and I’d book again for a shorter stay when I’d mostly be out exploring. The room had everything we needed and was very clean, though it was quite small. It can get somewhat loud, so light sleepers should bring earplugs. Once, the shower only gave us cold water. Reception was staffed around the clock and very helpful, which was a big plus for us. The hotel is very central, with easy public transport and many well-known sights on the European side fairly close.

The view and balcony were the only good parts of our room. The building itself isn’t new at all, even if it may have only recently opened as a hotel. I knew this would probably be a below-average stay, but the good reviews still left me wondering how bad it could be. I chose somewhere cheaper so I could spend more on the vacation, and we just wanted something acceptable. This was my first time spending less on accommodation, and probably my last. Comfort matters, even when you don’t spend much time in the hotel. Our room was tiny and felt suffocating. There was condensation and mold on the walls, bad smells, and dirty windows. Without the balcony, I wouldn’t have lasted even a day. The weather was very cold, though, so we ended up staying in the room and the balcony didn’t help much. The location was okay, but the surrounding area looked quite creepy. Breakfast was included, which I’d been looking forward to, but it was the same standard offering every day. I only liked the boiled egg and bread, and there weren’t other options. After the first few days I stopped going down. Nearby places serve food that’s both cheap and very good. They also charged extra if you wanted coffee instead of tea, which seemed absurd when I didn’t want tea at all. We had trouble with the heating and hot water. The hot water was limited, maybe 10 minutes at most, probably because the small boiler ran out quickly. The staff were kind and helped us with those issues. There’s no room service. I’d never return, and if you want even a minimum level of comfort, I’d look elsewhere. My stay wasn’t entirely bad or good, but several things made me uncomfortable.

The staff were extremely helpful. I arrived early and they let me check in. When I was leaving, I had trouble with my motorcycle, and they helped arrange repairs.
