Hotel Cenedag

Out of the three people at reception, only one could speak English. They really need to hire more English-speaking staff.

The view from rooms on floors 3, 4, and 5 is awesome, looking out over Izmıt. The rooms are clean, and the location is great. Service is friendly and high level, and there's a guy who speaks English really well, which is rare in Turkey. Definitely five stars. I come back every month :) 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Breakfast is an open buffet in the morning, which helps make the service feel worth the price. Otherwise, it might seem a bit expensive. The hotel sits in central Izmit and has a small fridge and AC in the room, though the building is a little old and run down and could use improvement. The receptionist was kind and moved me to a quieter room where the light worked. There's paid street parking out front, or a cheaper multi-storey ottopark a few hundred meters away, at 180 TL / 24h.

I keep coming back to Cenedag when I'm in Izmit. Out of the hotels I've tried over the years, it gives the best value for the price, especially as breakfast has gradually gotten a bit better. It's a good fit if you're not too fussy about details and want a place to sleep, have breakfast, and spend time around the area. Getting around is easy. There's a tram stop right outside, and transport and food options are all within walking distance. From Izmit Otogar (Bus Station), it's fairly easy for a foreigner to reach the hotel, and buses from the station go to Istanbul or Sabiha airports. The main road with frequent small buses to nearby cities is close too. The staff are courteous and really friendly. There's always someone who speaks English, which I haven't found at other hotels. They've handled room changes for me and accepted packages I ordered through Trendyol without any trouble. The WiFi is good enough, and some rooms have a fridge or desk, useful if you're working remotely. Every room I've stayed in also had a working AC unit. Breakfast comes with the stay, and I've noticed it improve over time, even adding some pastries. Still, it can be cold and dry, and something fresh and hot would help. Cleanliness has been uneven in the rooms I've used. I've seen stains on towels and bed linen, and dirt left in some spots.
