Breakfast at Roots, just across the road, was outstanding. Such a beautiful place.

If you don’t have a car, there’s a minibus from the hotel to Fethiye every hour. From there, or from Hisarönü, you can continue to Ölüdeniz. Having a car would make staying here even easier. What makes the place special is the quiet. After Istanbul’s constant noise, even at night, the peace here was a relief. Open the door in the morning and the abandoned Greek village lies at the foot of the hill opposite. I’d start at the lower church, walk up to the chapel, then follow the village road to the school. There’s an aunt at the end of the road, also an immigrant from Thessaloniki, where you can have a bitter coffee. It makes for a lovely walk through the old village. The building itself is the priest’s house in Kayaköy, the old Greek village whose residents were forced to migrate during the population exchange. It’s been remarkably well preserved, and the owners deserve credit for caring about its history. Mr. İbrahim, who is from Fethiye and descends from families forced to migrate from Rhodes, told us stories that helped us understand the place. He was a pleasure to talk with. The accommodation is charming and clean, and there’s a kind of silence here you don’t find in Ölüdeniz or Fethiye.
Fümehan is right by Roots, the village’s gastronomic haven, which is a real plus. It’s a great option if you want quality accommodation while staying close to history and culture. This is an authentic house said to have belonged to the priest of Kayaköy, a 500-year-old Greek village. It has been restored without losing its original character, and you can feel the centuries in it. I’m grateful to the architect for bringing this beautiful place back to life with such attention to every detail and helping preserve our collective memory.
October was a lovely time to be on the Turkish coast. We spent three days slowing down, sleeping well in a luxurious bed, enjoying the quiet and looking at the stars. The ghost village of Kaykoy is literally steps away, and our apartment’s small kitchen was a welcome extra. We didn’t see any mosquitoes. Fumehan Boutique Hotel is an incredible spot for a romantic weekend. Every detail feels carefully considered, and the stay is like stepping back in time. Special thanks to Ibrahim Bey for being hospitable, attentive, and tactful. If you’re after privacy and tranquility, this place will suit you. All the usual amenities of civilization are only a 5-minute drive away.
You can stay here with bed and breakfast if you like, and I’d give yourself 2 days to take in the history and art. The hotel feels like an open-air museum, so go and experience it. The building was the Kayaköy Orthodox Church Priest’s house, and it has been turned into a boutique hotel while preserving everything. The atmosphere is magnificent. Anyone interested in experiencing 5000 years of history should visit. Happy exploring! ☀️
