Idyros Hotel

It’s a low-budget hotel, so I didn’t expect much, but the staff weren’t very friendly. Reception not speaking even basic English wasn’t an issue until a problem came up. There were complications with room availability when I arrived, and then the language barrier became a real problem.

The peaceful atmosphere, pretty grounds, and helpful people made this a really lovely stay. The owner often checked how our holiday was going and was ready to help with anything. There are lots of green trees and flowers in the well-kept yard, and the clean pool was a nice place to spend time. We also found free parking nearby, which mattered to us, and the main sights were close enough for walks and excursions. Shutters on the room windows made it properly dark, so we could sleep in. The food was tasty, especially the range of vegetables. It was sweet that they held a small May 9 celebration for guests with cake and balloons. We’d happily come back, and despite a few small drawbacks, we had a great holiday. Room cleaning was only done on request, so I’d have liked it more often. The plumbing was a little dated, but everything worked. There weren’t many fruits, perhaps because it wasn’t the season. You could hear the nearby mosque’s call to prayer clearly in the morning. It caught us by surprise at first, but we got used to it. Many people smoked at the dining tables, which may be part of local culture, though more non-smoking areas would be nice. Internet was poor in the room but worked very well around the hotel, and I wish the WiFi reached the rooms.
