Staff were really helpful, and the little pool and quiet corners around the hotel made it easy to relax. The place is spotless and has the feel of a Turkish family home. It’s tucked away somewhere peaceful, yet the lively town centre is only a five-minute walk.

The welcoming ladies were lovely, but the man who seemed to be the owner was very rude. We’d booked through hotels a year earlier and had included our children and their correct ages. After my husband checked in, he told me children under 12 couldn’t stay, citing ministry and pool rules. I was disappointed, but things got worse when he said we hadn’t added the children and that the booking site wouldn’t have let us book if we had. It felt like he was calling me a liar, instead of considering that the company might not have passed along their ages. Maybe the rules changed since we booked, but I know I entered the details correctly. When I explained why I felt accused, he argued with me and yelled because I challenged what he’d said. He also wouldn’t give us anything in writing to confirm we wouldn’t be charged. The hotel looked nice, and the women were genuinely warm, which made the whole thing a shame. Thinking back, the booking company also seems to have made a mistake with our flights, since our children ended up split up on the plane. In hospitality, he could have handled the situation much better.

We only found this place after changing an earlier booking, and ended up feeling as if we’d made new friends. The two people running it speak English, French, and German, though their strongest way of communicating is simple kindness and hospitality. It’s an old-fashioned, heavenly spot full of greenery, close to the shops, port, market, hammam, and pretty much everything else. Inside, it has all the amenities you’d expect from a hotel, plus the feeling of being spoiled by your favorite aunt. The quiet, warm pool was lovely, as were the divine-smelling sheets and towels. Every day at five there’s tea and sweets from the owners. It’s a generous treat, but also a nice chance for guests to meet, share stories, and make connections. We’d happily return whenever we get the chance.

Our large, comfortable room and the complimentary breakfast, with lots of good choices, made for a lovely stay. Ata was kind and helpful, and the hotel itself is beautiful, a real gem in the heart of Kusadasi. Shopping, the ocean, and the Karavanserai are all within a five-minute walk, and the architecture and setting are hard to beat. I stayed in July and hope to come back soon. The hospitality and kindness will stay with me.

Even years later, I still have plenty I could say about this place. We stayed before the pandemic, on our first trip to Turkey, hoping to find somewhere that felt true to Turkish tradition. The hotel is tucked into a narrow cobbled street in an older part of the city, so at first you might miss it. A graceful wooden gate and a small Villa Konak sign are the only hints, then you step inside and it feels like a dream. Jasmine scents the garden, where there are comfortable places to sit and unwind. The traditional building has wooden windows, doors, and balconies, while the rooms feature crocheted and embroidered details and hand-woven carpets in classic Turkish designs. I also loved the varied breakfast, the staff’s hospitality, and the homemade biscuits brought out warm every afternoon at five with tea. If traditional cultures matter to you, I think you’ll be as charmed as I was.
