The terrace has a nice view, and the location worked well. The guy was helpful, the Wi-Fi was good, and both the cute room and restroom were clean. The mattress and the room itself could use improvement, though, and they really should keep the place cleaner, especially the mattress. It was okay for a stay in cold weather. Still, it was a good deal.

Central, and probably the cheapest option for backpackers. For 60 TL I got a bed and a fan, which didn't feel like a fair price. The younger guy on duty was good, but the receptionist/owner looked at me as if he wanted me dead. Nobody spoke English.

For 70 TL, or 35TL each, we got a private room, making it one of the cheapest in old Mardin. It still felt expensive for what you get. In the morning the shower was closed for some strange reason. The sheets were dwarf-sized, so basically we ended up sleeping in the blankets, which probably aren't cleaned between guests. At about the same price, Sahmeran Pension Hôtel (Pansiyon in turkish) offers roughly the same service, plus breakfast, in a much nicer setting with an old courtyard, trees, and a terrace.

The power plug didn't work, and there was no air conditioning. You couldn't open the door without letting insects in. One of my worst stays in turkey.

I came planning to spend just one night, but the great location and how attentive the staff and Mr. Vehbi were kept me there for three. I'm really glad I found Başak Palas. Next time we'll bring a group and stay here again. Thanks to the Başak Palas team.
