Alkan Hotel

I was disappointed by the condition of the room at Alkan Hotel. It didn't seem well looked after, with dirt in several corners and old, worn furniture, which made it hard to feel comfortable. Some staff were rude as well. I was met with impatience and indifference instead of a friendly welcome. The stay fell short of what I expected, and I’d hesitate to recommend it to someone looking for a clean, pleasant hotel.

The breakfast was filling and enough for us, mostly eggs, vegetables, and cheeses. The hotel's quite far from the center, though it suits you if you're happy spending time by the pool. Our first room faced the noisy road, and I barely slept, even with earplugs. Reception let us switch to a pool-facing room the next morning at no extra charge, which I appreciated. The new room wasn't much cleaner, but at least I could sleep. The staff were kind and very helpful with all our requests. The rooms are dated, the fridge barely worked, and luckily the AC did. I can't really say the hotel was clean.

The reception and bar staff were lovely and friendly, and the pool area was nice. Our room was clean, though a little dated. We stayed on the road side but didn't hear any noise. The Alkan is on a busy road, one block from the beach, with lots of bars, restaurants, and shops close by. Breakfast had a limited selection, but toast and coffee suited me. I've just returned from a pleasant stay.

We were told check-in would be at 5pm instead of 2pm, and the response was, "If you don't like it you can simply cancel the reservation". After we contacted the travel agency, we got a room on time, but the AC and phone had problems. Getting the room cleaned or fresh towels meant begging each time. The cleaner yelled at us in Turkish whenever she brought towels, and we couldn't understand her. We felt discriminated against and treated like animals. The staff were very rude and racist. If you're Lebanese, definitely don't come here.
