Grand Diamond Hotel

The room was beautiful and clean, and breakfast was good. The staff were great and very professional, especially Ali Bey and Eda Hanim. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay. I'd recommend this place to everyone, and if I return to Turkey, this is the only hotel I'd come back to.

It was fine for a quick night's rest, but I didn't feel welcome or free to relax. The manager was around all the time but still overlooked what guests needed, so we had to ask for even basic things like water at breakfast. He also said the elevator was broken, though it worked perfectly well. Nothing more than a place to sleep for one night.

The staff tried to help with whatever we asked, and I have no doubt they meant well. Still, I won't stay again until the shortcomings are fixed. We picked it for its proximity to the harbor. My room was clean, but the furniture was old, and some basic things were missing. There were shower towels only, so don't expect towels for your head and feet. The toilet and shower shared one space, with no separate shower cabin, and the shower head was covered in limescale. The heating setup was odd, though maybe that's how it works in Mersin and nearby, I'm not sure. Air conditioning was controlled centrally: you had to tell reception your room number and desired temperature, then they switched it on downstairs. It was extremely noisy in the room, but thankfully it broke after a while and the noise stopped 😄 Breakfast was poor and not enough. Some pastries were burnt black underneath, and they really shouldn't serve those. There weren't enough teacups, so new ones arrived after being washed. When I pressed a fork into the food a bit firmly, it bent 😄 The cutlery felt like it might be made of aluminum foil.
