Ramada By Wyndham Cappadocia Hotel

Across three stays at Ramada by Wyndham hotels, I've had some of my worst hotel experiences. The air conditioning was centrally controlled, so even when the room felt very hot I couldn't turn the temperature down. At one hotel, a receptionist's answer was to open the windows. I had no choice in the booking because my travel agent, Exoticca, arranged it for the guided tour. Exoticca should share responsibility for choosing this hotel chain. I'd advise prospective guests to avoid it.

The staff are friendly and the location works well if you're driving, but without a car you're dependent on taxis since the hotel is outside the public transport zone. Dinner was average, and they should give more attention to cleanliness.

We spent two nights at Ramada by Wyndham Cappadocia and had a nice stay. The rooms were spacious, clean, well kept, and had comfortable beds and air conditioning. There are plenty of buffet dinner choices, though the flavors were just okay. The desserts were too sweet for me and had a dull texture. Breakfast begins at 6 a.m.; it's a lighter selection, but good quality and handy for anyone heading out early. The setting is the main draw. It's close to sights like the fairy chimneys, and mornings bring hot air balloons while evenings have lovely sunsets. There's an indoor pool, but the entrance is tucked away inside the spa and takes some finding. The hotel is well equipped for exploring Cappadocia, especially if you're not too concerned about the dining, though both the food and the route to the pool could be better.

I was glad my belongings turned up, but the locker system and the way staff handled what happened left me very disappointed. After I returned to my room to change, reception called and said my things had been found in the women's locker room. They seemed to assume I'd used the wrong one. There is a clear sign for the men's lockers, I'd used them the night before, and I had used the men's urinal before changing. I told staff that two teenage boys were in the pool and that we were the only male swimmers then. I suspect the boys may have been playing a prank because the lockers are so easy to break into, though I can't be sure. I had gone swimming for 40 minutes, then found the locker open and my belongings gone, even though I'd set my own four-digit code on the one lock I could get to work. Most of the locks were marked broken, and the locker area itself is hard to find. A manager said he'd investigate and get back to me, but he never called. If you use the spa or pool, don't trust these lockers. They don't work.
