Marcan Beach Hotel (ADULT ONLY 16+)

Watching paragliders drift overhead while stretched out on a sunbed was a real treat. There are plenty of loungers and parasols, and the pool was warm enough for regular swims. The beach and Olu Deniz strip are nearby, with a relaxed walk of about a mile along the beachfront to Blue Lagoon. For a 3* hotel, it really does more than you'd expect. The rooms are simple but comfortable, with a mini fridge, though no kettle. We brought a folding silicone travel kettle. Breakfast is a typical buffet, with an omelette station at the back and fried eggs available too. Safes are kept at reception rather than in the rooms, and there's a daily rental charge.

Mercan beach hotel made my first holiday in 18 years a lovely one. I was there with my mum, who has some trouble walking, and the hotel did more than enough to meet her needs. Our room was basic, but had what we needed, and there was a good range of food for different tastes. The pool was clean, though walk-in steps would help older guests. The staff and other guests made us feel welcome, and we've come away feeling so much love from turkey 🇹🇷. Everyone was cheerful and kind, and helped make the holiday great. The air conditioners were clean, and some of the staff were friendly and smiled. But the wifi kept having problems, especially on Apple devices, so we couldn't put cartoons on for the kids on the iPad. The rooms stayed dirty even after we left a tip, and empty glasses sat on the stairs for days. We were missing cutlery every day, and the glasses smelled of beer when we used them for soft drinks. The hotel is high up the hill, and the kids complained about the walk all the time. At midday on our last day, they cut off our wristbands, leaving us without food or drinks for 13 hours. Oludeniz is lovely, but I wouldn't stay at this hotel again.

The pool is the only part of this hotel we liked. The price is absurd for a place like this, and I strongly recommend comparing the bathroom's actual photos with the ones the host has posted. It was a nightmare, and I absolutely wouldn't recommend staying here. Sleep was impossible with a disco blaring nearby until 2 AM every night. The rooms were filthy, with sticky floors that remained dirty even after we asked for cleaning. The bathroom was in awful repair, with broken plumbing, rust and grime everywhere, and vomit in the sink when we arrived. The smell was unbearable, like rot, sewage, and strong chemicals. We had no hot water at all, and no water for two days. When it came back, it was salty and unpleasant. They sprayed mosquito insecticide inside the rooms, which really concerned us. The restaurant was filthy too, with a kitchen that looked long uncleaned, and sticky tables and chairs. Breakfast was mediocre, and we couldn't bring ourselves to eat in all that dirt. Staff were intrusive but not helpful, and didn't seem interested in fixing anything. The host should be paying guests to stay here. Avoid it.
