Peaceful nights were a big plus here. There was no loud music going late, and the other guests were friendly. The hotel seemed to have mostly Turkish visitors while we were there, but the staff spoke fluent English, so we had no trouble. We were two adults and an 8-year-old, and the simple, clean room worked perfectly for us. I only need a room to sleep, shower, and get ready, so the basic decor and lack of luxury didn't bother us. The food was excellent, with plenty of good options during the day and in the evening. The staff made the stay especially nice. My son had a lovely time playing pool with the young men at the bar, and Mr. Suleyman and Mrs. Dilek were always ready to help, especially when we needed directions. Thanks as well to the cleaners and the bar staff for making it such a happy, memorable visit to Balkaya Hotel. The hotel is in a quiet spot just off the main road. It's about a 10-minute walk, with a slight uphill stretch, to the road where regular buses go to the city center for a reasonable fare. Sok grocery store is also around a 10-minute walk away. There aren't shops right beside the hotel, but that wasn't a problem for us. There's a green button outside to call a taxi, too. We'd had doubts after reading mixed reviews, but I'm glad we booked. I've been on package holidays in many countries, and this was an amazing experience with no complaints from us. If fancy decor and extravagant lighting aren't important to you, it's a great fit. One thing to prepare for: in Türkiye we got mosquito bites, which hadn't happened on our earlier trips. I had brought medication, and there are plenty of pharmacies in Hisarönü where you can get mosquito repellant. Even four days after getting home, the itching was still going, so I'd strongly suggest bringing some. We hope to visit Turkey and Balkaya Hotel again next year, InshaAllah.

The staff were welcoming and polite, especially Aussie at the bar, who was a real gentleman. My room was ready when I arrived, and the cleaners had done a lovely job. I stayed for a week.

We've been coming to this area for over 10 years, and this is the hotel we like best. It's cheap and cheerful, not brilliant, but lovely if you know what I mean. You get what you pay for, so don't expect five-star luxury. We've booked a third visit, which says plenty for us.

Back for another stay, and Suleyman and the family have made a few little changes. There are more staff who speak English now, and the food is even better. I liked it last year, too. In the evenings they have hosts bringing local culture into the place with folk songs and traditional dancing, and it's fab. The hospitality is amazing. It's more like a three-star place than a five-star one, but it's great if you want to chill somewhere that's still not too far from the beach or shopping. We have so much respect for the place. We're definitely coming back for round three, and can't wait!

The pool table and the decent swimming pool beside the bar were good, and the bar staff were great hosts with plenty of banter. The place had a Benidorm-style charm, and I had a pretty solid time overall. There were also reasonable facilities and the food was pretty decent. A few lovely family-run restaurants within walking distance served amazing food very cheaply, though that's not really what this review is about. I came with my nan a few years ago, when I was about 15 and she was 56, I think. We didn't get the room we expected. It had a so-called patio, really just two concrete slabs next to what was basically a fire exit. Ants came in through that exit from the patio. We complained, and the official fix was for a cleaner to sweep them out with a broom. They leave pheromone trails, so more ants just followed them in. The road outside was quite bumpy, especially on the cattle trucks they send tourists down to the beach. Those rides were a pretty good crack. At one point I ended up serving behind the bar because the bar staff were stoned a lot of the time, which was cool, but then they tried to get a load of people to pay their tabs. People, me included, had been paying upfront all week, so they were understandably pissed off. Nobody got hurt in the end, and it was pretty kek. I'm not sure if those bar staff still work there now. Three stars for the banter, pool table, and decent pool. Two off because some staff were sneaky bastards and one 30-year-old dude tried it on with my nan, LOL, and because of the ant room. The TV-show-style Benidorm charm earns a bonus star.
