We only meant to stop by for coffee and that amazing view, but after seeing the rooms we knew we wanted to stay. My partner and I spent a day here in early September. I’m from the area, though we live in Switzerland, and several relatives nearby had recommended the hotel. The care shows everywhere. The furniture was made for the hotel, and the wood in the rooms, cedar I think, has a lovely scent that makes you relax right away. The staff were professional and helpful, and breakfast was excellent, with very good ingredients from the nearby village. It’s well worth the detour. I’ve stayed at a lot of mountain hotels in the Swiss Alps, and this was beyond comparison with the others I’ve seen. Definitely worth the price. 100 out of 10, we’ll come back for a longer stay next year.

The people here are so friendly and generous, and I’m already looking forward to coming back in another season for a longer stay and time to explore the nature and culture around this unique place. The setting is spectacular, and Askireg feels like a hidden gem. The rooms are luxurious, with simple, refined architecture and a lot of care in the details. Breakfast, and the food generally, was outstanding. It comes from a farm right next door, and the quality and sustainability feel completely natural here. That may reflect how rooted the local community is in its surroundings and in a centuries-old culture of respect for nature in this wild, beautiful area.

The storm made the whole area feel like a quiet winter world, and even at -12°C the room was warm, with hot water and a cozy feel. I’d been stranded for a night because of the snow. The staff offered a complimentary stay, though I ended up paying, and it was absolutely worth it. They also helped pull my car off a steep slope in front of the hotel. Somehow I made it to the Pulumur road in a sedan with summer tires and no chains. Miraculous. I’d come from Washington, DC, traveling alone last year. I landed in Amed, rented a car, and headed toward Dersim just before a winter storm. I’m on a tight budget, so the hotel was beyond what I could afford, but I went anyway and don’t regret it. The hour-long drive from the city center along the Munzur River through the mountains was breathtaking. When the storm arrived, the white-covered mountains and stillness felt magical, almost like a place for reflection and healing. The hospitality was wonderful. Ms. Didem at reception was attentive and warm; Mr. Cafer, the manager, made sure guests felt at home; and Mr. Hakan, the bartender and barista, was especially thoughtful. During the storm they gave out lentil soup for free. I’m from Amed, and honestly it was better than my mother’s, the best I’ve ever had. It was made with fully organic ingredients from the neighboring village. The other food was great too, and even the minibar was well stocked. The hotel is a masterpiece. I took photos of every detail with my professional camera so I could remember it. I’d hoped to meet Mr. Kemal, the owner, and hear his inspiring story from Europe, but he was busy with other guests. Maybe next time. I was sorry I couldn’t keep the Dersim Masalları book as a souvenir, though I understand the policy. If I ever hit the jackpot, I’d move in. If I weren’t so shy, I’d ask Mr. Kemal if I could work there for free just to be around the place. With my mixed Zaza and Kurdish heritage, I appreciate the name Askireg, which I believe is Zazaki or Armenian. I only wish the original village names had been preserved. This is more than a hotel for me, it’s a sanctuary and a dream etched into memory. Definitely recommended. Xoma to ra razi bo, Heyder Ali her tim to ra bo! Thank you so much for your outstanding service.

Breakfast here was the best I’ve had in Tunceli. The mountain view made it feel like we were eating out in nature, and the freshness came through in every bite. Everything was made with natural local products. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
