The place is clean, warm, and in a protected historical site. Even though we were the only guests, there was heating and hot water around the clock. I stayed with my son, and the owner took such good care of us. There are a few kittens around too, if you love cats. I also met some lovely village people; one cooked me green tomatoes and popcorn. A magical stay with kind people all around.
We found the mansion a relaxing stop on our way to Istanbul, and it’s worth staying at least two nights to take in the atmosphere and explore nearby. The town of Safranbolu is beautiful and just a short bus ride away. The mansion itself is gorgeous, the beds are very comfortable, the cats are friendly, and the company was great. The host was a legend, doing everything he could to make guests comfortable and happy. Thanks for a memorable stay!
The house has the feel of a living museum, full of character, with adorable cats wandering around. Though it feels like stepping back in time, we felt warmly welcomed and well cared for. The host, Selcuk, greeted us with huge warmth and generosity. He’s a wonderful storyteller and guardian of local history, and took us around the village to share things we’d never have learned from a guidebook. Our night at this 300-year-old house in Yoruk Village near Safranbolu was a highlight of our Turkey trip. We left with a real connection to the place, not just memories. Thank you, Selcuk, for such selfless hospitality and an unforgettable night.
We stopped for a night while travelling to Europe, and for the price, it’s hard to beat. It’s a classic Ottoman building, with rooms upstairs and no elevator. The whole place feels like living in the 19th century, with that old style everywhere you look. The man who rents it is nice and is trying to revive Yoruk village. We loved the experience and I’d come back. Just don’t expect anything modern. My vote is yes.
The hosts are some of the warmest people I’ve met in Turkey. It’s a family business, and they really do treat you like family. We had lovely late-night chats over endless tea, and when my boyfriend got food poisoning, they went out of their way to help him feel better. They’re also great with sightseeing advice and the practical details of getting around. The mansion feels like a museum, with cute kittens and a soothing breeze coming through the windows at night. It’s in a village outside Safranbolu, surrounded by well-preserved buildings that are 500-600 years old. Staying there feels special and much more intimate than being in the city. Don’t miss the experience!
