Fatih, the caretaker, didn't speak much English, but his kindness and thoughtfulness made our stay even more memorable. The place had a wonderful Ottoman feel, just what we wanted for an authentic experience, and more besides. It hasn't been rebuilt from its original form. With the beautiful wooden ceiling, stylish common room, and tall, spacious rooms, you can really feel the history in the old walls and the people who lived there.

There was no hot water, so we had to shower in my friends' room. The tiny bathtub and toilet were tucked inside the closet. It's a really unusual design, but not practical at all.

The mansion felt spotless, and we were welcomed with warm, friendly hospitality that made us feel at home. Nothing had been changed from its original state. The ornate high ceilings and rooms kept as they were in the past made it feel like a wonderful trip through history. We highly recommend it.

I've stayed at this historic mansion three times, on different occasions, and would happily return. Mr. Hakan was very attentive to his guests. The moment you walk through the door, it feels like stepping back a century, and it's wonderful that the place has been preserved in its original state. I'd recommend it to anyone staying in Safranbolu.
