Maya World Moonlight

We were happy with the stay and would return if they bring back the entertainment, which they said had been cut because of COVID-19 staffing problems. The hotel is a good three-star place, though I wouldn’t call it quite four-star. The food changed daily and was tasty, with several ice cream choices and burgers between lunch and dinner, and no queues. The beach was lovely and felt a bit like the Maldives. It was a seven-minute walk, or we could take the shuttle, and since it belonged to a paid bar there were no annoying sales pitches for fur coats or excursions. Clubs, bars and shops were nearby. Our complaints didn’t ruin the holiday: housekeeping was poor, our towels were replaced just once and the sheets not at all. Management also forgot our wristbands at check-in and told us not to talk loudly by the pool in the evening. The kitchen and bar staff were fine.

The hotel is a little outside central Kemer, so it’s quieter, with pines, mountains and fresh air around. We could take the shuttle to the sea, or walk there in 10-15 minutes at an easy pace, which didn’t bother us. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the animation stayed low-key, with pool games, darts and competitions. The food was really tasty and varied, with desserts and fruit always available and meat or fish cooked over an open fire for dinner almost every day. The free bar had local drinks, soda, tea and coffee, some better than others, but it was popular. Our small room had comfortable mattresses, so sleeping was easy. It was cleaned every day, towels were changed daily, and the sheets every two days. Shampoo and soap were provided. A great holiday!

The bartenders and kitchen staff were lovely, but that’s about the only good memory I have. The hotel felt creepy at times, and it was dirty, with loads of cockroaches and other insects. It looks all right at first glance, and I’m not fussy, but the food was painfully repetitive and the organization was hopeless. The huge food queues were something I could have put up with. What I saw behind the scenes means I’ll never stay here again. WiFi cost extra, and communication with staff was incredibly difficult. I was as happy as a child when it was time to leave, which says it all.

The beach they provided was lovely, with a nice area for swimming. Food was average, but the hotel itself was clean. We were pleased with how attentive, caring and friendly all the staff were.
