Caldera Hotel

We weren’t sure whether to stay in Goreme or Uçhisar, and I’m so glad we chose Uçhisar and The Caldera Hotel. The staff were amazing, friendly, attentive, and helpful, and they arranged all our activities, which were excellent. Breakfast each day was a feast, with an individual spread big enough for four people. Our spacious, beautifully decorated room and bathroom were very clean, and the room had a perfect view from a lovely little balcony. It stayed cool and had a bar fridge and aircon. Getting around was easy, with a quick taxi ride to Goreme taking about five minutes and costing around 300tl. Prices in Uchisar were better than in Goreme and Istanbul.

Caldera Hotel was a great stay, especially for the view of Uchisar Castle, which looked magnificent in daylight and at night. The staff were friendly and attentive, and their service made the visit enjoyable. Breakfast was okay, and whether the location suits you depends on where you plan to go. At times the place seemed short staffed, as I kept seeing the same receptionist at midnight, at noon, and serving breakfast. Construction nearby also took away from the otherwise peaceful feel. Still, I had a great stay.

The view of Üçhisar kale is stunning, and the location works well for exploring and watching the balloons in the morning. We stayed four nights and did some hiking in Pigeon and Love valley, among other places. The rooms have floor heating and AC, so they should work well in any season. We’ll definitely stay again!

I wouldn’t recommend this “hotel.” The room smelled, things were broken, and the air circulation worked only when it felt like it. There was a construction site outside, bringing dust and noise, and we mostly tried to stay away from the hotel rather than complain. It wasn’t worth the money. The hotel also seemed very understaffed: the receptionist might be serving as a waiter and a chef at the same time, while the person cleaning rooms served food too. They were kind and friendly, and breakfast was good, but the hygiene in the building was poor. I saw a bag of bread on the floor and couldn’t tell if it had been served to us. In terms of location, I’d look at Goreme instead, since Uchisar felt like a dead, dirty village. Book somewhere else.
