Kugu Urla

This was a pretty hotel, but I couldn't sleep well for three of our four nights, which is why I'm giving it two stars. We chose it to be near family and were out most of the day, so we mainly needed somewhere to sleep. We couldn't switch because the booking was nonrefundable, and after days of travel we didn't have the energy to find another hotel. It's a small boutique hotel, basically a big house, so sounds carry through the building. At night, baths and toilet flushing sent water rushing through the pipes loudly enough to disturb us. Someone in the room above wore high heels and walked around every night, with tapping right over our heads when we were trying to rest after long days out. The IKEA furniture included wrought iron beds from IKEA that creaked whenever you turned. It got so bad we slept on the floor for two nights. I didn't see a point in telling the staff, since there wasn't much they could do about an IKEA wrought iron bed. The hotel is lovely-looking and within walking distance of Ula town center, with easy access around town. The staff were wonderful and accommodated our very late check-in. But the pool is barely a pool, more somewhere to sit beside than actually swim. We visited in late September, when the surrounding small houses meant there was no sunshine over the pool all day. It's described as a sustainable hotel, so we didn't get room service unless we asked. Over four days, our room became very disheveled. With such difficult nights, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who's even a semi-light sleeper.
