We had a cozy, relaxing stay and I'd gladly return for another break from my schedule. Half Moon Blue has an old-fashioned charm, with a nice mix of luxury and nature. We could also use the grounds at Bacolet Beach Club and Cafe Havana. The staff were polite and helpful, especially our receptionist, Tessa. There are a few things to improve: the older rooms could use attention to detail, and I'm not sure if it was usual, but no one cleaned our room between days.

The hilltop setting makes for a bit of a climb if you're not used to it. We were welcomed warmly and service was prompt throughout, and breakfast included with our room was excellent. Half Moon Blue's shabby-chic look took a little while to grow on me, but I came to like the decor. The theme carries through to the newer property, too.

We had a lovely view and a good location, but the rest made our anniversary stay feel pretty dull. My husband and I were there for two nights. The pool was filthy, as were the lounge chairs, and the property felt badly maintained. Our room had no hot water. The reception area was crowded and unwelcoming. We were woken at 6 am on our last morning by people cutting trees and talking loudly. Service was poor at meals as well. We waited half an hour for drinks, had to order again, then waited another ten minutes. The rice with our meal was inedible. When we told the waitress, she didn't seem to care and later brought us burnt fries. There was complimentary tea in the room, but no sugar or milk or creamer.

I arrived in the rain and initially tried to look past some things. There was nobody in reception, so I waited until someone eventually came. She was very nice, but it felt strange that the hotel seemed empty. I barely saw anyone staying there, while The Club seemed busy. The old-world room style was fine, but the place badly needs an upgrade. Later, I heard a squeaking sound that seemed to move around and got louder. I called the desk because I thought there were mice, and they moved me right away. It was already 10 pm, and I still couldn't sleep in the new room. The next day I asked to be upgraded to The Bacolet Club. This could be a beautiful place, with an even better view than The Club, but they've let it run down. They should do serious work on it, or turn it into condos. Look closely at the photos, there's black stuff everywhere. Run, run fast. Three stars is much too generous for this hotel.

The staff were helpful and accommodating whenever we needed anything. We had a great stay enjoying both the pool and beach. I'd recommend this place for a short visit or a longer stay in Tobago.
