Dafeng Hotel

From our room windows we could see Ta Shan and Ming Yue line, and the family room itself was bright and clean, with comfy beds and pillows. Since it seems to have been painted recently, there was less of a mold smell than I've noticed in some places. It's more expensive than nearby hotels, but I thought it was worth it compared with places I've stayed before. The staff were friendly and even showed us a shortcut to the bus terminal that avoids those dreaded stairs, though we'd been here a number of times already. Towels are changed only on request, and rooms aren't cleaned every day for stays longer than one night. A good place to rest after hiking.

The staff seemed very uninterested when we gave feedback, which was frustrating after several problems. Our room was freezing. They only turn on the heat during certain hours if the temperature drops below a set level, and the heated mattress didn't make up for it. Hot water is also available only at certain hours. Cleaning wasn't thorough either, with dust and dirt under the bed and on top of the cupboards. The shower has no door, so water floods the bathroom. We didn't notice mold ourselves, but the fan isn't automatic or sensor operated, so it could become a problem again over time. The renovation is to a fairly good standard, but the price is high, partly because the hotel is inside the park.

We could leave our luggage in the lobby both before check-in and after checkout, which was very helpful while waiting for the bus down the mountain. The receptionist was helpful throughout our stay. The room looked clean and modern, and the toilet was clean too, with a smart toilet seat that heats up so you can use it comfortably. The bed was clean, and the electric blanket kept us warm all night. I fell asleep right away. One small drawback: they no longer offer a free shuttle because of a staff shortage at the time of this review. With large bags, the walk from the entrance to the hotel can be a hassle since it's quite a distance. I'd recommend staying here overnight in Alishan.

I had to cancel eight days before check-in because of airport closures following the Iran war. They showed no understanding of the situation and wouldn't waive the 14-day cancellation policy. I expected better service.
