The common area has a welcoming feel, and the mattress was comfortable. Getting to the other side from the train station is straightforward since they explain how to use the overpass. The capsule USB ports charge slowly, though, so I used the common room outlets when I needed a faster charge. I’d stay here again.

The dorm beds were really comfortable, with handy charging ports and a little shelf, and the rooms have air conditioning. Showers and the well-equipped kitchen were clean, and there’s a washer and dryer. They also put out free bread, jam, tea, and coffee. The staff were fantastic, friendly, and very accommodating. It’s right by the train station and Cycling Route 1, and I could leave my bike in the kitchen.

From Chiayi Rear Station, you can get to 23 Planet Hostel on the sidewalk. I left the building using the stairs to the right, then crossed the street. There was no construction blocking the sidewalk when I was there, and you don’t need to use the overpass. I made the mistake of walking through the bus-only drop-off and pick-up area after spotting 23 Planet across the street. Someone yelled at me, so don’t walk through that zone. From the Taipei HSR, take free shuttle #7211 to Chiayi Transit Station. It leaves from the right after you exit the building. Look for the white pillars with Blue Font and BRT on them, then show the driver your THSR ticket for free entry. The ride takes about 50 minutes. Google says Chiayi Station is having a major elevated railway project through around 2031, so the entrances to 23 Planet or Chiayi Front Station may change.

I loved the space-themed decor, and the beds were really comfortable. The staff were so kind and friendly. One of the best hostel stays I’ve had.

The room with a private bathroom was very compact, and we had some trouble opening our suitcases. That wasn’t a big issue, though, and there’s an elevator for luggage. We also left our bags there while we were away in Alishan. We stayed at 23 planets for a night before the trip because it was so handy for the bus and train station. The staff welcomed us warmly and had information ready about the stay and getting around. Their detailed Alishan transport guidance was especially useful. From the rear station, follow the directions carefully and don’t take the stairs. We arrived by cab, but on the way back we managed to carry our suitcases through the rear exit to the train station without trouble. The theme is cute and the decor is impressive. It was good value, and we’d come back.
