Cape 42 Hotel Il

This was our second visit, and everyone with me was happy with the setting and facilities. There was enough to keep different people busy at once, from singing and mahjong to movies, water play, and the kids’ facilities. Nobody got bored. Already looking forward to coming again! 🎉❤️

The service was thoughtful. We got a heads-up 15 minutes before check-in and again five minutes before check-out. They even told us there were Elsa outfits in the closet, though we missed them. The kids would have loved those. There was loads of space for the little ones to crawl around and splash, and the adults had fun with the switchboard and karaoke too. The pool was cold, though, and with the air conditioning on, a few extra towels would have helped. You need to bundle up as soon as you get out so you don’t catch a chill.

We paid NT$18,000 per night for all of Cape 42 B&B, split between three families, or NT$6,000 each, with breakfast excluded. At that price we expected a clean, comfortable place with basic amenities. Instead, the stay was deeply disappointing and left me questioning the quality of travel in Kenting and the state of Taiwan’s homestay industry. The room I had, the "Elsa Room," was especially bad. The air conditioner was so loud it sounded like a train, and the quilt was damp and sticky. After my daughter and I had showered, my wife went to help our son and found there was no hot water. He had to take a cold shower. The musty smell hit us as soon as we entered. The whole place felt damp, and at night, with the lights off and the air conditioner roaring, I felt claustrophobic. The children's play area had old, grimy equipment, and the dolls and pillows looked extremely worn. The stair railings were spaced far apart, and the stairs themselves were steep, so parents have to watch small children very closely to keep them from falling. I stay in hotels in different countries for work and travel more than 75 nights a year, and have tried many kinds of lodging. This was one of the worst stays I can remember. Paying NT$6,000 a night for this room was infuriating as well as disappointing.

The Family Room had everything we needed, even a washing machine. Both the adults and kids got to relax and have a great time. The sound carried through the walls more than we'd like, and the door was a bit hard to shut 😅
