The rooms are spacious, and being close to the station is a real plus for the price. I mostly wanted to respond to some of the comments, though. Are people judging an ordinary guesthouse by five-star hotel standards? If that's what you want, why not spend a few thousand more on a luxury hotel? Complaining about every little thing when you're paying a few hundred dollars is absurd. Mature people should handle small problems themselves. This is unprofessional.

The room for five is spacious, and the owner is friendly. The room is a little old, but everything was clean and tidy, and the surrounding facilities are well maintained. Shower pressure was good, there was detailed tourist information on the first floor, and the price was affordable. It's a good fit for travelers who mainly need somewhere to stay. The second-floor five-person room has a window facing the road, so light sleepers should take that into account. There's only one parking spot in front of the guesthouse, though parking nearby is convenient.

The guesthouse is close enough to Hualien train station to walk, and it's also easy to call a taxi nearby, so it works well for people arriving by plane too. You can get around on foot without transport, with plenty of places for food and drinks. There's a nearby elementary school where people can exercise, which is handy for anyone who's earned a bronze medal and wants to keep up their ability. The owner was kind and came down to guide me when I called because no one was at the entrance. My room was spacious, clean, and quiet enough for good sleep. The bathroom was clean, toiletries were all there, the shower pressure was good, the air con cooled well, and free Wi-Fi was available. A good choice for a light trip of walking around and exploring.

I checked in Friday and had booked a single room, but the owner upgraded me to a spacious four-person room since one was available. It was very clean overall, although some of the furniture had small scratches. Toiletries, shampoo, and shower gel were provided, and there's a shared water dispenser on the first floor. The air conditioning was quiet and cool. I was on the second floor and could hear some water running when someone upstairs used the bathroom, but closing the toilet door made it fine. Good value, and I'd stay again if I get the chance.
