Day Hualien

My husband and I had booked two nights, then added a third after changing our itinerary. The first room was fine, with no complaints, but for the extra night we were moved from the 10th floor to the 7th, and that room was unacceptable. There was mold on the bathroom tile wall and dust along the wall corner. I couldn't tell how long the room had been unoccupied. Worst of all, I was bitten while sleeping and both my arms swelled up. It was the worst experience of my trip. I complained to the front desk.

The staff were welcoming and helpful. When I asked whether it was safe to leave my bicycle outside overnight, they offered an indoor place for it, which put my mind at ease. The hotel is very conveniently located near the train station. My room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the hot water dependable. There was also a dehumidifier to help dry clothes and reduce the dampness.

The location was great, and the modern-looking photos and 4.1 Google rating were why I booked an Executive Double. Seeing the room in person was a shock. It was dirty and run down, with stains on the carpet and walls, hairs on the pillows, and a moldy smell that made me worry about cleanliness. I don't understand how a hotel in this condition has so many positive reviews. At least they provided disposable slippers for walking on the dirty carpet, and breakfast was better than I expected.

We were just stopping for a couple of nights while driving with family, and it was comfortable enough. Breakfast surprised me, there were lots of choices for such a small hotel, and it was all very good. It's close to transit, with funky decor and a rock wall in the lobby. There's even a decorated room with reading nooks and lots of books for kids. Seemed like a decent place to rest.
