Chungtang Spring Flagship Hotel

The staff who stood out to me were the executive chef and baker at the main restaurant. My daughter has severe tree nut allergies, and they personally walked us around the buffet to point out foods she should avoid. The baker even brought up desserts that were allergy friendly and kept separate from other nuts. I really appreciated that care. The hotel feels a bit dated, though my young kids liked the amenities. They loved our safari-themed family room and the little push cars in the hallway. The play area gets packed in the evening, especially after dinner, so off-peak times may be better. The kids also had fun on the race track. The hot springs have a kids' section with slides and a playground, but the changing rooms didn't feel very clean. We found it better to shower and change back in our room.

The bathhouse was so quiet during my garden-view room upgrade that it felt like I had it to myself. The scenery and luxurious massage chair made for a blissful, relaxing evening 🥰 The shower area had a slight smell, but I enjoyed the variety of hot springs. I liked the beef soup, seafood, steak, and orange juice at dinner. Desserts were average, and the ice cream was much too sweet 😖. At breakfast, the premium jams, fruit, yogurt, and cheese were my favorites. This was a weekday one-night, two-meal Travel Fair package for NT$6,280. Motorcycle parking is on B1.

Kids under 12 would love this place and probably want to come back. The rooms are spacious, with indoor hot spring tubs, plus complimentary snacks and soft drinks. Outside, the spa has at least 12 varieties, including regular hot spring water, red wine, hot spring fish, lemongrass, tea, and milk. There's also a steam room. For children's activities, reservations are needed for the PS5 racing experience and Nintendo switch. There are also drawing and ball-pit areas in a kids' cafe style, plus small kids' car racing. Breakfast has lots of traditional Taiwanese and jackal Yilan food that both adults and children kept eating, along with free-flowing beer in different flavors. Two things could be better: the public shower area feels sticky, and mats are needed by the hair-drying area to prevent slipping on the wet floor. The service is friendly, but feels mechanical, as if staff are just following their training.

Everything was fine until we went to use the hot spring spa. The rules weren't written in the room, and guests have to wear a shower cap, but none was provided. They told me to buy one outside the hotel, even though I was already in my swimsuit and would have to go back out. Overall, the stay was very good.
