The room smelled damp, and I’m not sure the bathroom had been cleaned. There was quite a bit of mould and brown water marks around the bath, plus grimy marks by the sink that looked like it hadn’t been wiped. For the price, I expected more. We arrived at 3:45, 45 minutes after check-in was supposed to start, but the room still wasn’t ready. They took payment and asked us to wait in the lobby. While there, I noticed they’d charged NT1000 more than my booking.com reservation. The hotel blamed booking.com and said there was nothing they could do, so I tried to contact them. The local number didn’t work, and I ran out of credit while calling internationally. I felt like I’d just been robbed. Once the room was finally ready at 4, they handed us a key but gave no details about the hotel, breakfast, or even where the lifts were.

The hotel is in a great spot near the Love River, and we had a good stay when we visited in December. Our room had a nice port view, though the balcony was locked for safety reasons, so we couldn’t go out. There were a few stains here and there, probably because the hotel is relatively old. Breakfast was a buffet, mostly Taiwanese food with some Western choices.

Up on the 22nd floor, it was quiet and clean, with a great view. I enjoyed the sauna and hot bath. There’s also a little pool that’s fine for a dip, though too small for swimming. Snacks and sodas were in the room, and there’s a handy water dispenser in the hallway. I can’t comment on the gym.

It’s an older hotel with a four-star feel and a nice atmosphere. The attendant welcomed us at the door and helped us find our way around. Our room was clean, with complimentary snacks, and the spa and sauna included with the stay were a great extra.

Everything else was good, but the woman at reception was extremely rude and unfriendly. This was the worst service we had during our stay in Taiwan. If I could, I’d give the service zero stars.
