Hotel King's Town

I came back after many years and still picked this hotel for a vacation. I used to stay here after dinners with friends in Kaohsiung, before heading north the next day, usually Monday through Thursday. It's quiet, spacious, and comfortable, close to the business district and convenient places to eat. The location makes getting around Kaohsiung by car quick, and it's especially handy for public transport. Friendly service, with easy access to the station, MRT, department store, and airport. Highly recommended!

The breakfast was one of the best we had during our time in Taiwan, and it really helped make up for the hotel's age. The place looks old, and the carpet has stains from years of use. The location is handy too, right by the train station, with plenty of places you can walk to or reach by train or bus.

The reception and housekeeping staff were very nice, and I originally chose this place because I'd stayed here years ago and it's close to the train and MRT stations and a laundromat. But the room smelled damp and musty, and its old carpet was stained. For my whole stay there was loud metal banging above me, loud enough and unsettling enough that I was sure people on the same floor could hear it too. I also heard a baby crying and footsteps upstairs. I went to bed early the first night because I was exhausted, but woke an hour later and was kept up until morning. I had to use earplugs to sleep. Since I had booked two nights, I put up with it until I could move to another hotel. Things seem to have gone downhill, and I won't stay here again. There are plenty of other hotels around.

The one problem I had was that my iPhone 15pro wouldn't charge on two of my three nights, using my original UK charger with an adapter. Maybe the voltage was low. Still, I'll definitely come back. The management, surroundings, service, and staff were all excellent, and breakfast is a must. It was a delicious meal with great service from a seriously rocking team. A real gem among all the new, tasteless inns in Taiwan.
