We booked the entire apartment for Chinese New Year, six family members and three dogs, for NT$29,600. It has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The place is quiet, with well-kept plants and thoughtful decor, and it’s nice for relaxing, unwinding or chatting. There’s no TV, breakfast or kitchen. Instead, there’s a bar counter with plates, cups, cutlery and a small electric cooker. They leave lemon-filled pastries, Want Want rice crackers, candy, fruit and coffee packets, but keep in mind many breakfast shops close during Chinese New Year. Bring your own toothbrush, toothpaste and slippers. The suite shower is cramped, and there’s nowhere to hang a travel bag or headscarf, which was inconvenient. There’s also a camera in the living room, so bear that in mind for privacy. If you’re visiting Pier-2 Art Center without dogs, I’d suggest paying a little more for a room at Hanlai Hotel. Its smaller lights and retro, artsy look suit people who like taking Instagram photos.

The owner put real thought into the interior design, and the place has a distinctive guesthouse feel. I stayed in this guesthouse in a military dependents' village the night before the Kaohsiung Marathon. The area is unusual, with guesthouses tucked into every alley. There was no TV, but the necessary amenities were there. It’s a converted old house, so the soundproofing isn’t as good as in hotels. Still, I found it quiet at night and wasn’t disturbed.

From booking through check-out, everything was self-service, with no face-to-face contact. Even so, I could feel how much care the owner puts into looking after this warm old house. Any problems were dealt with quickly, and it’s easy to find with convenient parking. 100 thumbs up! I have a back problem, and the hard bed kept me awake all night. When I spoke with the owner, he suggested adding a soft mattress. I’m grateful for his thoughtful hospitality and love the simple, caring atmosphere. Everyone says they want to stay here next time they visit Kaohsiung, and I’ll definitely come back to Kaohsiung just to stay here again.

Small place, but cozy inside. The owner was really friendly and even drove me to the station when he had some free time 😭

The cozy setting and all the small touches made a strong impression. The tea bags, coffee packets, cookies and snacks were all really good quality, and the stay went beyond what I expected. One thing, though: for a private room costing over 2000 yuan a night, the price feels a bit unreasonable.
