Lion King Hotel

The reception ladies were especially lovely, kind, friendly, and helpful. My room was spacious and felt bright and cheerful, and I really enjoyed staying here. The location is hard to beat: it’s right across from the famous Hanshin Department store, close to Pier 2 and Love river, and about a five-minute walk from the Metro to the airport. I’d stay here again when I return to Kaohsiung. It made my happy memories of the city even better.

The breakfast was fine, though the buffet was small, and I tried most of what was there. I’d have liked labels, since only one or two items were marked. My room was nice enough, but I wished they’d provided shaving cream. The staff were mostly cheerful, just quite direct, with no small talk or check-in about how the stay went. Checking in and out felt almost too quick. At checkout I handed over the key and said I was leaving, and they just said, “see you.” Everything was perfectly okay, but I didn’t find any extras or surprises, whether in the room, the service, or breakfast. I was pleased with my stay, though I guess that’s why I landed on three stars. Some people may prefer a straightforward place like this, but I tend to hope for something that stands out a little.

The facilities feel a bit old, and it’s probably time for an upgrade. Still, we had a great stay and the service was excellent. The hotel is right beside a shopping mall, with convenience stores, a food street, and a bar street nearby, so getting around for what we needed was easy.

The rooms were pretty clean, and the staff were kind and helped with all my requests. It was hard to find someone who spoke English, though. Only two people did.
